When wealthy British visited spas in England or on the continent to relax and ‘take the waters’ they often returned home with lovely handmade souvenirs to display in their homes. This was a subtle way or letting visitors know that they were of sufficient means to travel and relax. This box is such a piece. The ebonized exterior has inset panels that are hand painted with pastoral scenes and the interior is lined in leather. Wonderful condition.
