We were incredibly lucky to find these bee skeps from the Cevennes region of France. Great chestnut logs were hollowed out and reinforced with iron rods through the interior, then topped with local pieces of slate to create perfect apiaries for the local black bees. For something that was made to be completely functional, these have the look of something straight out of Lord of the Rings. Each would make a one-of-a-kind piece of statuary for a protected area of the garden, or an unusual side table.
